We receive so many messages relating to love, sex, and marriage. Some of them are overt, delivered as instructions on how to behave. Many are hidden, messages from society that we live with from childhood.
What messages do we receive, telling us how to behave or even how to think, sexually?
Men are told different things than women. Society tells the single man a variety of things about sex. Have sex with as many women as possible. Focus on skinny women with big tits. Don’t get trapped into marriage. Treat women as conquests.
Single women hear different messages. Be a good girl. Protect your virginity. Don’t sleep around. Don’t be a slut. Don’t get pregnant. Find a husband.
The messages shift, for both men and women, after marriage. Once a man is married, the rules change. Provide for your family. Keep your urges in check. Look at other women, but if you do stray, be discreet.
A married woman is also bombarded with messages. Be a good mother. Focus on your kids. Support your husband. Pursue a career (as long as it doesn’t take time away from your family). Stay faithful. Be available to your husband, sexually.
These messages have shifted a bit over time, but we owe much of our sexual subtext to attitudes that have been with us for…
