The Eternal Lesson of Groundhog Day
When a movie teaches you something about real life
It’s that time of the year again.
GROUNDHOG DAY.
Like the movie (which I watched for the first time last night, I’ve only seen snippets before).
- Phil: What would you do if you were stuck in one place, and every day was exactly the same, and nothing that you did mattered?
- Ralph: That about sums it up for me.
What would you do if nothing you did mattered, like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day?
That’s how life is sometimes. Every day blends into the next. Nothing seems exciting anymore. You wake up, and the routine starts.
How do you find meaning?
Not to get all existential and shit, but this is more true than not for most of us.
Life can feel hard.
Like we are pushing a rock up that hill. Bill Murray can be compared to the Greek mythological figure Sisyphus, who is also condemned to an eternal, daily punishment.
Metaphorically shaking your hand at the sky, “What else do you have for me?”
